Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Whispr’ handles information when you use our anonymous social space, connect with Discord, participate in trusted-friend features, and interact with our safety tools. It should be read alongside our Terms of Service.

Our privacy approach

Whispr’ is designed to support anonymous expression. Your public posts and comments are intended to be separate from your publicly visible real-world and online identity. However, anonymity is not absolute: information you choose to include in content, information shared with trusted friends, technical information necessary to operate the service, and information required for safety or legal compliance may still be processed as described in this Policy. We encourage you to avoid including names, addresses, account details, images, or other information that could identify you or someone else unless you deliberately want to disclose it.

Information we collect

We may collect account and connection information provided through Discord, such as a Discord account identifier, username or display information made available to us, and authentication tokens or permissions needed to connect your account. We may also collect the content you submit, trusted-friend connection choices, reports you make, safety classifications, device and browser details, log data, approximate location inferred from network information, and basic usage or diagnostic information needed to operate and secure Whispr’. We collect only what is reasonably necessary for these purposes and do not require you to place your real name on public anonymous posts.

Discord connection

When you choose to connect through Discord, Discord provides information according to the permissions you approve. We use that information to authenticate your account, prevent abuse, and provide connected features. We do not make your Discord identity public through anonymous posting merely because you connected with Discord. Discord independently controls its own platform and data practices. You can review and manage the relevant connection permissions through Discord and any available Whispr’ account settings.

Posts, messages, and trusted friends

We process posts, comments, reactions, reports, and messages you create in order to display them, maintain the community, and prevent misuse. A trusted-friend connection is an intentional choice to share more directly with another person. If you reveal identity, contact details, private experiences, or other sensitive information to a trusted friend, that information may be visible to that person and is no longer anonymous to them. Please share carefully. We cannot control what another person does with information that you voluntarily disclose to them.

AI-assisted safety and age-sensitive access

Whispr’ uses automated systems, including AI-assisted tools, to help detect 18+ content and other potentially harmful or sensitive material. We use the resulting classifications to support moderation and to limit what users who appear to be under 18 can view, so that they see only content our systems flag as appropriate for younger audiences. Automated systems may be inaccurate, and human review may be used where appropriate. We do not use these systems to publish a public identity for anonymous users. Safety classifications may be retained and used to improve review quality, prevent repeated abuse, and apply proportionate account or content restrictions.

How we use information

We use information to provide and personalise the service, maintain account access, display content, operate trusted-friend features, respond to reports, detect and prevent abuse, apply safety and age-sensitive controls, troubleshoot problems, improve performance, communicate service notices, comply with law, and protect Whispr’, our users, and the public. We may also use de-identified or aggregated information to understand service reliability and community safety trends.

When we share information

We may share information with service providers that help us host, secure, authenticate, analyse, moderate, or operate Whispr’, subject to appropriate safeguards. We may also disclose information where required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to protect safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or in connection with a corporate transaction. We do not sell personal information or reveal the connected Discord identity of anonymous posters to other users as part of normal service operation. Where providers process personal information for us, they may use it only to perform services on our behalf or as otherwise permitted by law.

Retention and deletion

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Whispr’, maintain safety, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and meet legal obligations. We may delete, anonymise, or aggregate information when it is no longer needed. Some content or records may be retained longer when necessary for trust and safety, legal compliance, or the prevention of repeat abuse. Deleting content from public view may not immediately remove copies from backups, security logs, or records retained for legitimate operational reasons.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You can help protect your account by keeping your Discord account secure, using trusted devices, and being thoughtful about information you reveal in content or trusted-friend conversations. If you believe your connected account has been compromised, disconnect it where possible and contact support promptly.

Young users

Whispr’ applies age-sensitive protections to help reduce exposure to content that may not be appropriate for younger audiences. If you believe a young person has provided information in a way that violates applicable law or requires our attention, please report it through our support or safety channels. We may take steps to restrict access, remove content, or request additional information where permitted by law. These safeguards do not replace a parent, guardian, or individual’s own responsibility to use online services carefully.

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You may also disconnect Discord where the connection controls allow. We may need to verify your request and may retain limited information where legally permitted or required. To exercise a right, contact Whispr’ through the support channel available in the service. If you are unhappy with our response, you may also have the right to raise a concern with your local privacy regulator.

Updates and contact

We may update this Privacy Policy as Whispr’ changes, including when we add new features, safety tools, or legal requirements. The latest version will be posted here with its effective date. If you have questions about this Policy or our privacy practices, contact the Whispr’ team using the support channel made available in the service. Material changes may also be communicated through the app.

Cookies and similar technologies

Whispr’ may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep the service functioning, remember essential preferences, maintain security, understand technical performance, and detect misuse. Where non-essential technologies are used, we will provide any notices or choices required by applicable law. You can also manage certain cookies through your browser settings, although disabling them may affect how the service works.

International processing

Whispr’ and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. When we transfer personal information internationally, we will use safeguards required by applicable law, which may include contractual protections, technical measures, or reliance on recognised legal transfer mechanisms.

Data accuracy and corrections

We aim to keep personal information used to operate Whispr’ accurate and up to date. You can help by keeping the information associated with your connected account current and by reporting inaccuracies through the support channel. Where we rely on information supplied by a third party such as Discord, updates to that information may need to be made through that third party first.

Sensitive personal information

Whispr’ is not designed for you to submit sensitive personal information such as government identifiers, financial account details, health records, passwords, or precise location data. If you choose to include sensitive information in a post, message, or trusted-friend exchange, you do so voluntarily. We ask users to minimise such disclosures and never share another person’s sensitive information without a clear lawful basis.

Policy interpretation

This Privacy Policy is intended to explain our current practices in clear language. Where this Policy conflicts with mandatory legal rights or protections that apply to you, those legal rights and protections take priority. If any part of this Policy is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the Policy will continue to apply.
